When you love another person, you love the little things about them. You don’t love your best friend because she’s exactly 120 pounds and clear skin, you love her for her lighthearted humor and dangly earrings.
So I urge you to make a self love list. Add to your list anytime something comes up. Next time you’re taking a shower and notice a cute freckle on your arm, write that shit down. It’s the small things that make you unique that make you beautiful.
In addition to the overplayed physical self love, you need to love who you are as a person, your personality, your interests, your hobbies, your outlook on life. And guess what?! In order to love these things about yourself, you need to know these things about yourself. I cannot emphasize this enough, but knowing yourself is 80% of the self love journey.
In turn, this also makes you less dependent on outside validation. I rely less on people validating that I am creative if I know myself. I know what I have created already and I know my abilities therefore I am able to assure myself that I am creative.
Here are some artsy starters for some small things you can love about yourself:
A hobby you have
The color of your eyes in extreme detail
Your best character trait
If you have any birth marks, figure out a fun shape it resembles
A cartoon character that best matches your personality
Your handwriting
The way you express love
The number of freckles on your body
A groovy “daylist” type explanation of your music taste (ie. scandalous rock and roll breakdown)
Your aesthetic/ vibe
Things that helped shapewho you are
An accomplishment your proud of
Your hair type
